  • Charity Dinner
Last September a Charity Dinner was organised in Blaricum by Voorma & Walch, van Poelgeest and the local Albert Heijn. The Good Cause that evening was ZAP.
Thanks to Jacques Walch as inspired auctioneer and the sale of Bingo cards, it generated a fantastic amount for ZAP. This grant, supplemented by a donation from McKinsey, is being used for the extension and furnishing of the girls boarding school at the secondary school in Nkulamaziba. It means that we will be able to offer another 80 girls a safe haven.
We owe huge gratitude to the organisers and everyone who contributed to this event!

    Change in the board
Because of her domicile in Italy, Madelon Steenstra Toussaint has decided to relinquish her ZAP board function. We are delighted that she will continue her involvement with ZAP from the sidelines and thank her for her great contribution. She will be succeeded by Charlotte van Dixhoorn, whom they are pleased to present to you:

Lotte van Dixhoorn (1989) lives and works in Amsterdam, in the strategy team of the nature institute Artis: the piece of Amsterdam that looks most like Zambia. She has a warm connection with Zambia, where she lived until she was 18 years old. Over the past 5 years she has been active for ZAP via her former employer, McKinsey, whom she convinced to fund the programme to keep girls in (primary) school. She knows the area in which ZAP works well from the time she lived in Zambia, and also wanted to stay actively involved because of this. The active participation of the community and government support for ZAP's activities is most important to her, as this ensures the long term success of the programme. She's looking forward to helping to think about ZAP's strategy and how ZAP can continue to contribute to the development of amazing Zambia!

    Update current activities
    Training centre
In the last Newsletter we announced the creation of the training centre for practical vocational courses. The construction of the first two classrooms is finished. In the next phase two half- open workspaces will be added. Next year, after the rainy season, we hope to be able to start with the first training courses for seamstresses and carpenters.
How can you support this project?
  • We need another € 5000,- for the construction of the half-open workspaces
  • a contribution for the carpentry kits (€ 115,- for one)
  • a contribution for the sewing machines (€ 75,- for one)

  • Primary school in Nkulamaziba
By now, a good 900 kids attend this primary school. At the moment it consists of 7 classrooms but an additional block with two classrooms is essential. The foundation ‘Het Tiende Kind’ has provided an important contribution to this project. This means that we now only need another € 3000,-. (Total budget € 29.000,-). Under the direction of our construction manager Jericho, the community has already started digging the foundation and making the bricks.

Programme to keep the girls in school
Since the start of this programme, McKinsey Children Foundation has supported it. We are most grateful that McKinsey has decided to prolong the contract for the next year.

ZAP thanks all of you for your continued support and donations and we wish you a good and warm Christmas!
