Take part in the future of ZAP How? We are happy to give you an update about ZAP's activities from December 2014 up to and including May 2015. Start of the construction of the first secondary school in Kaindu Chiefdom
In the last Newsletter, we told you how our dream: "the realisation of the first secondary school in Kaindu Chiefdom" was taking shape. And now we're actually getting there! We have started the preparatory work. The local community has organised the delivery of the first loads of construction and river sand and is helping on a daily basis with all the preparations, such as digging the foundation trenches. The German agrarian company AMATHEON-AGRI has honoured its commitment to ZAP to clear the 3 hectares needed for the project. Under the direction of Adam Buske the company provided a Digger (TLB) with driver. A very considerable contribution from Amatheon-Agri! It would otherwise have taken ZAP and the Community many months to prepare the ground. The collaboration with our other partner - World Vision - is also proceeding smoothly. The first load of stones has already been delivered to the construction site. The completion of the first school block, with 4 classrooms and general facilities, is going to be a huge challenge but with the commitment of the entire Community, all the ZAP workers and these tremendous partners, it is certainly going to happen. ZAP NEEDS ALL POSSIBLE SUPPORT TO BE ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS FEAT IN THE COMING YEARS AND HOPES TO BE ABLE TO COUNT ON YOUR CONTINUED COMMITMENT
School uniforms for the children of the primary school in Nkulamaziba
Thanks to a fantastic (private) donation, we have been able to provide school uniforms for all 500 children in Nkulamaziba. The uniforms have been made in Mumbwa, where five seamstresses worked very hard indeed to finish all of them in just a few weeks. The children and their parents waited in line to receive their uniforms. Most children used to come to school in threadbare clothes, so you can imagine how proud they are of their new uniforms, which shows that they go to the Nkulamaziba school. Moreover it also eliminates the difference between poor - and very poor. The Nkulamaziba School Vegetable Garden
In most of Zambia scant attention is paid to healthy nutrition. The children eat only "shima" for lunch (a thick maize porridge which, although it fills the stomach, has no nutritional value at all). Thanks to a donation from the Moments of Joy Foundation, the children of the Nkulamaziba school are going to have a healthy meal in future. The Foundation, in consultation with ZAP, has decided to donate a Vegetable garden. Under the direction of the teachers, the children are going to create and cultivate this garden themselves. We consider this a wonderful example of combining school-learning with learning about a healthy lifestyle and are most grateful to Moments of Joy. The video below gives an impression of all the various developments. © ZAP Foundation ZAP is going to get visitors
During the week of July 11th ZAP is going to welcome a group of 11 members of one family (ZAP contributors from the Netherlands) who are going to come to Zambia for one week to help with the construction of the first school block for the Secondary School. It is going to be a busy week, because in addition to the building activities, this week will also be about giving information about the Netherlands, making music, and of course there will also be a sports afternoon with soccer, field hockey and badminton. At the end of that week the hand-over ceremony of the primary school and the 8 teacher's houses will be held.We are very much looking forward to the arrival of these ZAP contributors and will of course give you an extensive report afterwards. ZAP thanks you for your sincere interest and continued support and wishes you a warm and happy summer! MORE THAN EVER ALL CONTRIBUTIONS ARE ESSENTIAL!!
