Take part in the future of ZAP How? ZAP CELEBRATES ITS 5TH ANNIVERSARY!!
ZAP has been in existence for five years. This is a tremendous milestone for us. In 2008 we started with 140 school benches for the Kaindu Basic school and now, five years on, there are 2 schools, 11 new teacher's houses, and another 7 have been extensively renovated, there is a waiting shelter, an open air kitchen, 2 staff quarters which have been completely renovated, and the ZAP chicken farm. We are incredibly proud that together we have been able to achieve all of this and we want to thank everyone who has supported ZAP from the bottom of our hearts. Look at the video!! ZAP at work in the rainy season. © ZAP Foundation As you will have seen in the video, it was the rainy season in Zambia and it literally never stopped raining. This sort of weather didn't only cause logistical problems and hamper the delivery of materials, but it was also particularly burdensome for the two ZAP teams who were working in the middle of the bush trying to complete the construction of the school in the grounds of the Kitumba Open Air Prison and the fourth teacher's house in Nkulamaziba. Barring a small delay, both projects were completed on time and that is a fantastic achievement. SCHOOL IN THE GROUNDS OF THE KITUMBA OPEN AIR PRISON
After a construction project lasting just short of a year, the school opened recently and on the very first day more than 70 children applied. At the moment there is one qualified teacher working at the school but meanwhile we have received three applications from teachers who are prepared to move to Kitumba as soon as we are able to offer them accommodation. In May we will have the official opening ceremony and we will of course give you a full report in the next Newsletter.TEACHER'S ACCOMMODATION IN NKULAMAZIBA
The school in Nkulamaziba has been in operation, with great success, for a year now. Over 300 children attend this school in this very remote area. There are three teachers, who each live with their families in a house built by ZAP and in April the fourth house will have been completed. The great popularity of the school has convinced many parents to also send their children to school and this means that there is such an influx of children that ZAP has decided, in conjunction with the school directors, to build a second school block of three classrooms. We hope that we will again be able to count on your help and support for our various projects in 2013.
