Dear Founding Fathers and Friends of ZAP,

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who has donated money. In the enclosed video, you can see how enormously enthusiastic and thankful everyone from Mushingashi has responded to the delivery of the school benches. Without your support, we could have never achieved this!

The benches have been made by Shonga Steel, which is located in the capital Lusaka. The company has supported our efforts and has helped us by giving an respectable discount. A truck from Mushingashi has collected the benches from Lusaka. This means a six hour drive both ways, on roads that are for the greater part hardly driveable.

During my stay, I have also met with Dr. Brain Chituwo, the Minister of Health. Dr. Chituwo has committed to support ZAP wherever possible. Firstly this means that he will help to get me a working visa. This visa is required to work over 90 days per year in Zambia. Getting the visa also means that we no longer have to pay taxes over the goods that the foundation imports into Zambia.

As of June 17, I will return to Zambia for several weeks, where we will start our next project: the renovation of seven teacher homes. This renovation will take place under the supervision of Rob Buske. Rob has been living in Zambia his whole live and has great experience in the building of houses and lodges. We have decided to start by building a new house, in which the teachers and their families can temporarily stay during the renovation of their house. The complete project has been discussed with the teachers and the community. I feel honoured that in July I am going to be able to meet the Minister of Education, who wants to be informed about the initiatives of ZAP, and this project in particular.

For the construction and renovation of the houses, a total amount of EUR 35.000,- is needed. All materials (cement, sand, doors, windows, etc.) will need to be transported from the capital Lusaka to the bush. In the future we hope to be able to build more houses, since the Kaindu Basic School, with its 900 students, of course needs more than 7 teachers.

With kindest regards,

ZAP (Zambia Allocation Program)
